To Honor and Remember

22 Too Many Hike OKC is an event held each year to remember and honor our veterans that lost their battles to PTSD and depression.  Hikers from all over the nation gather to carry pictures, names, and memories of these veterans on a 22 mile trek through Oklahoma City.  Some participate remotely and extend the reach of what we hope to accomplish each year.  Whether you walk with us for 5 minutes, 5 miles, or the whole trail, every step matters.

22

In 2013, it was reported by the Dept of Veterans Affairs that an estimated 22 veterans committed suicide each day, a notable increase from years prior. That number has been disputed, but any number would be too high.  Though not every veteran suicide can be attributed to PTSD and depression, "22" became the face of the mission of awareness, prevention, and remembrance.  We can honor and remember those we've lost while helping those still fighting. Last year's report has estimates 17.5 veteran suicides per day, a welcome decrease, but the number 22 will serve as a reminder of what was until that number is 0.

Who We Are

Put simply, we are a group of people that come together each year with 1 mission in mind - carry the names, pictures, and memories of these fallen veterans to show those families and friends left behind that they are not a merely statistic, and that they are not forgotten. For some, the cause can be personal - bearing the names and pictures of loved ones they've lost, and some carrying the dog tags of service members they served with, no longer with us. But a personal connection to the cause is not required. Many hikers volunteer to bear the significance of loss with each step, pictures and dog tags in hand. And though our paces and distances covered on hike day may differ, we do this together. The words of encouragement and determination shared among the ranks on hike day is noteworthy, and the volunteers and all they do along the way are extraordinary. We are a unit with a mission.

Hike Day 2025

The 10th Annual 22 Too Many Hike OKC will take place this year on NOVEMBER 8th, 2025 from 8am-6pm.  We will start at Stars and Stripes Park, 3701 S Lake Hefner Dr, Oklahoma City, OK 73116.  There is no formal registration, but if you are considering being a part  of the event, or have any questions, fill out the form to the right and send it my way OR click the tab below the flyer and add yourself to the Facebook event page.  This will better help me forecast how many to expect.  Here is this years flyer:

Come Walk With Us

The 22 Too Many Hike OKC is and always has been free to participate in.  There are no registration fees and we will not ask for your money. The only cost is your effort.  We do offer a hike shirt every year, but only to rep the cause. The shirts are not required to participate in the hike. We know 22 miles may be a lot, but if you join us, we encourage everyone to walk only as much as you want.  1 mile, 10, or all 22, I promise you that every step matters.
